The Completely Unplanned Re-opening
As usual, I don't have any spare time to get anything on this site done, but this time progress seems to have not only stopped, but also reversed.
I don't know how long my server had been dishing out an ancient this site sucks because I haven't built any of it yet
message, but knowing my luck, a long time
would probably be a safe bet. I don't know why it's been doing this either. I'm not going to bother asking my hosting company why this might have happened because they'll probably just uninstall something from my host and send me a recipe for carrot cake. I'm guessing that they'd probably have just made some change to either the software or hardware on all the hosts in the rack (or maybe more) and then just did a generic restart on them all. That would explain why some instance of Apache that I did not install was running, rather than my own that I installed myself. There was some generic and completely un-customized version of Apache already installed when I got this host. I have just never bothered to get rid of it. I guess they started that one up instead of my own when they'd have restarted the machines or OSs. Quite why it was serving some ancient, unstyled HTML notice file is a mystery, given that I've never actually placed any files in its document root directory.
Well, in any case, everything is back to the usual, crappy, semi-functional normal state. I've really got to find the time to make some improvements to this place.
